Mr Smokestack Chimney Service - NC Governors Mansion 001Earlier this year, Mr. Smokestack had the distinctive honor to be chosen as the professional chimney sweeps of the North Carolina Governor’s Mansion here in Raleigh, North Carolina, and our Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA)-certified chimney technicians cleaned all of the fireplaces and chimneys inside this historic Queen Anne-style residence of Governor Pat McCrory and his family. Our owner, Robbie Markey, is proud to provide excellent chimney services to the governor of our state, as well as to the entire Raleigh/Durham area, including Chapel Hill, Apex, Cary, and Garner. We would like to tell you more about the stunning architecture and history of this gorgeous and stately mansion.

AN ARCHITECTURAL MONUMENT

One of the state’s finest examples of Victorian architecture, the North Carolina Executive Mansion was completed in 1891 after seven years of construction. The third official residence of the governor of North Carolina, this mansion features a gable with a steep pitch, elaborate woodwork, and richly colored textural surfaces. Much of the construction materials came from the state, including sandstone from Anson County, marble from Cherokee County, clay from Wake County, and oak and heart pine from all across the state. Working with such historical masonry, the chimney sweeps from Mr. Smokestack took great care in sweeping and inspecting the chimneys of the Governor’s Mansion.

A HISTORICAL TREASURE

Having served as the home of 29 governors of North Carolina, the executive mansion has had few major changes done to its exterior. Porches on the north and east sides were enclosed for kitchen and security expansions. The wife of Governor Dan K. Moore, Jeanelle C. Moore worked to make the public aware of the cultural and historical significance of the mansion by forming the Executive Mansion Fine Arts Committee that advises and supports the acquisition of gifts, purchases, preservation, and maintenance. In 1970, the Governor’s Mansion was listed in the National Register of Historic Places. To provide further support for preservation and restoration of the residence, the non-profit organization, the Executive Mansion Fund, Inc., was founded in 1988.

Fortunate to have provided our excellent chimney maintenance services to the historic Governor’s Mansion, Mr. Smokestack will give the same care and attention to your fireplace and chimney system.
