Helpful Chimney Appointment Tips

So, you’re ready to get your chimney and fireplace services booked. What can you expect moving forward? And is there anything you – the homeowner – need to do to prepare?

For Non-Emergencies:

The best times to make an appointment is during spring and summer months. As long as it is not an emergency, this is a great time for any chimney repair or preventive maintenance.

Why? In the fall, starting in late September through January, our appointment calendar here at Mr. Smokestack Chimney Service can be booked out a month in advance. This is why having an appointment in the “off-peak” months is really your best option. Not only does it make scheduling easier, but it gives us plenty of time to address any damages, concerns, or problem areas.

For Emergencies:

Of course, we will be there no matter when you need us in a true emergency situation. In those cases, please call us as quickly as possible.

If this is in regard to a house fire, DO NOT CALL US FIRST! Call 911 and notify the fire department and police as quickly as possible.

Keeping You Informed: What We Need From You

As a courtesy, we send annual reminders for service, and confirm all appointments by phone 24 hours in advance.

24 hours before your appointment, remember to:

  • Stop using your fireplace, wood stove or gas stove. For safety’s sake, we need to work with an appliance that is completely cool.
  • As a courtesy, please remove all ash from the firebox.

The day of your appointment, remember:

  • We need about 5 to 6 ft around the fireplace to be clear to get our equipment in place. Please remove fragile or precious items from the area near the fireplace.
  • You can watch us if you’d like. Customers learn a great deal about chimney safety from watching us work, so we encourage it.
