Why A Chimney Sweep Career Could Be Right For You

Introduction:

For a lot of people who want to work, this is a tough economy.  The pandemic is reshaping more than the restaurant, retail and service sectors.  It is changing the way that we work and live.  Those changes are leaving families behind and widening the wage gap for many professionals.  Especially those who have entered the workforce without a college degree.  For those people who are not scared of heights, the chimney sweeping profession is an excellent career choice.

What is a Chimney Sweep?

A chimney sweep or a chimney technician is an expert within the combustion industry.  They understand the process behind the burning of fireplaces, which vary wildly depending on the type of fuel source that is being used.  Their expertise is essential for homeowners, commercial businesses, construction professionals, and real estate professionals.

What is the day of a Chimney Sweep Like?

At Mr. Smokestack Chimney Service, our day starts at 6:45 A.M.  At this time we collect to attend the 7:00 A.M. meeting in which we prepare our staff for their day.  For our chimney sweeps, this is a time to get help with any questions they may have about their day.  Once the meeting is complete it is on to the appointments.  The primary responsibility of the chimney sweeps is to clean and inspect fireplaces.  This process involves the tools to clean a chimney, a camera to inspect the interior of the flue, and a ladder that is able to access the exterior of the system.  If the system has an issue or the homeowner would like to make an upgrade, the sweep is responsible for creating an estimate.  Once all of the appointments for the day are completed (which is around 4), the sweep returns to the home office to prepare the truck for the next day and send out any information that the customers need to make the right decision for their home.  Most days end around 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm.  Our team does not typically work weekends but sometimes it is necessary to meet the needs of our clients.

Benefits of A Career as a Chimney Sweep:
