Is It Time To Book Your Annual Chimney Inspection? Reach Out to Mr. Smokestack

What’s a Chimney Inspection Entail?
Well, it depends on the type of inspection you need. Here’s a quick overview:
- Level 1: This includes a basic examination of accessible parts and is suitable for regularly used chimneys with no major changes.
- Level 2: This is a more in-depth inspection, including video scanning, and it’s recommended for property transfers, after chimney fires, or when changes are made to the heating system.
- Level 3: The most comprehensive examination, these often involve the removal of chimney components (or something the surrounding wall, and they are conducted when hazards are suspected after Level 1 or Level 2 inspections.
When Should I Schedule My Annual Chimney Inspection?
Professional inspections should be completed at least once a year, no matter what fuel you burn and even if the fireplace is not frequently used. However, if you use your fireplace more frequently or burn a “dirtier” type of fuel, like wood, you may need more frequent appointments.
As far as the best time of year to schedule, we recommend the later spring or early summer months, right after the heating season has concluded.
Why not during fall when you’ll actually put your fireplace to use? Well, spring/summer appointments allow us ample preparation for any necessary repairs or maintenance before the next heating season begins. Additionally, warmer months are generally less busy for chimney professionals, making it easier to secure appointments at a time that’s most convenient.
